Family Portrait Session

Meet Andres, Kim, and Ana Sofia! There’s not enough good things I can say about Andres…truly someone I admire and respect as both a friend and colleague – and I humbly say colleague. When I first started out as a photographer, I knew nothing (and to a large degree, still feel that way). But in my naivete as a newbie, Andres came along side me and helped encourage and mold me into the photographer I am today.

My first official shoot was a wedding for a friend back in 2008. I had just purchased a camera and knew nothing about even exposing a photo properly let alone how to function as a wedding photographer on a wedding day. So I did what anyone might do in my situation – I called the guy who shot my wedding – Andres. I wasn’t sure how he’d take to my plea for help but I was amazed at his desire to help me out and even offer for me to second shoot for him and tag along on a couple of his weddings to observe and learn.

Since that first year I’ve had the privelage and honor of getting to shoot with Andres at numerous weddings every year and I always come away having learned something new, been challenged, and yet so encouraged. Both he and Kim are such wonderful people and so when I asked Andres to shoot a family portrait session for Lauren and I, I was humbled when he said he’d only do it if I would shoot a family portrait session for them!

Needless to say I was a little nervous on this shoot, but we had such a good time taking turns doing pictures for one another and it was such a great time to visit outside of shooting a wedding together.

Here are some of my favorites from their shoot!

I’m so excited to share Frank + Stacey’s engagement with you all! Mostly because I had one of my more embarrassing moments at a shoot to date. Also because I went to high school (for one year) with Stacey. Stacey was a senior when I was a freshman and was, and still is, friends with my brother. I was honored that she and Frank asked me to shoot their wedding next year and I can’t wait for their big day!

So on to the embarrassing moment??? So at the very end of our shoot I was moving from point A to point B to grab a shot from a different angle, and on my way I managed to (pretty badly) roll my ankle and sprain it. Fortunately I was able to stay on my feet and not damage any equipment but I have to give Stacey and Frank credit for not completely busting out in laughter at my clumsy debacle – but it was definitely embarrassing to say the least. Thanks for your kindness guys! Here are some of my favorites from their engagement shoot!

This was our last of 5 September weddings this year and we couldn’t have been happier to end such a busy month than with Donny + Nicole in Newtown Square and Media, PA. We met up with them back in October of last year to do their Engagement photos at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and just under a year later we were shooting their wedding. Their reception was at one of my favorite venues in Media – The Old Mill. It has such beautiful grounds along the river with a bamboo forest. I’ve only had the opportunity to shoot here once in the past so I was excited to shoot here again this year. Nicole was a beautiful bride with a simple yet very elegant dress – as well she wore her hair down in a tasteful fashion which Lauren and I both loved – something we don’t see very often. Everyone was a blast to work (& party) with and we were so honored to be part of their wedding day.

It was nice to have Lauren along with me for a change at this wedding and she even helped shoot this time around!

So excited to introduce you to our friends Greg + Nakia. Lauren and I have really enjoyed getting to know these two since we met them and got to spend some time with them on the engagement shoot. We spent an evening in mid October in downtown Lancaster for their shoot which is always a fun place to shoot. Enjoy some of our favorites from their session!

So I learned a valuable lesson on this engagement shoot and it has nothing do with photography. The lesson? Never ever drive in to Washington DC. Ever. In all seriousness it wasn’t that bad but after leaving myself plenty of time to get there, I was still late, and I was almost in 3 different car accidents on the highway. All that aside, I was so excited to get to shoot in DC and to spend some time with Kurt and Kylee. I shot Kylee’s sister’s wedding last year so I’m starting to really love their family! Kurt used to play for and is now a scout for the DC United and they live right outside DC and got engaged at the Washington Monument so ofcourse we had to get some shots with that in the background. Thanks to my buddy Eric Burkert for coming along to assist on the shoot!

This is a blog I’ve been anxious to get up since I shot the wedding. Gabe and Stephanie are a beautiful couple and I was honored to get to capture their wedding day. Truly, I think they could be featured in a magazine. We had such a fun time on their wedding day, despite a small and eventful setback at the Horticultural Center, we didn’t let it effect the time we had to get some amazing photos. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and a better day. Thank you, too, to my awesome assistant, Elizabeth Licitra, who second shot for the day.

This was one of the first engagement shoots I did this fall and I was so excited to get to do this downtown in Lancaster. I always enjoy getting to walk around town and create on the spot – Andy and Emily were filled with awesome ideas and had such a great time being part of the creative process. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding next year, and also…Adam, Emily, I apologize for having us walk almost 3 miles that day…sometimes I just get carried away!

You know how sometimes you just meet people and you think, “Wow, I feel like I could just call them up and we could go get a beer or something” ? Yeah, that’s Keith and Allie. We had a blast walking around Chestnut Hill with them doing their engagement session. Also, Keith is an accomplished musician and arranger, so there were a couple photos in here for his business. They were a blast to get to shoot and I can’t wait for their wedding next year!

We were so honored to do this photo shoot for our good friends, Lenny and Erin. We went to college with them both at Eastern University where Lauren lived on the same hall as Erin during Erin’s freshman year – the same year that Lauren and I met. Lenny and Erin had a beautiful baby girl, Olivia, a little over a year ago. Olivia, as we discovered, is such a beautiful ball of happiness. She and our son Andy have very similar personalities. So much so that we kind of think that if they were next door neighbors, lots of mischief would go down…lots.
